Nature is all knowing! Keep an EYE out for the whisperings and wisdom that surrounds us. As nurses we spend a lot of our time in the hospital and inside.
When you can, get outside, get in amongst nature and SEE what learnings and grounding is provided!!!
What can you see?
Having specialised as an ICU nurse the acronym of ICU would often confuse friends/family who were not aware… I would let them know that “ICU” was indeed “I SEE YOU”. It made me question though in the busy-ness of a shift do we really ‘see’ our patients or do they become the body or the bed number who needs the antibiotic, the wash, the surgery…
I know that my most rewarding shifts are when I focus on my patients. I get to know who they are and see them for their whole self, their stories & their life. This is why I wanted to be a nurse. To connect with people & support them in their vulnerable & challenging times.
So, in the busy-ness of a shift I challenge you to slow down enough to “see” your patient. I know it makes my shift more fulfilling.
In terms of life beyond the walls of the hospital, keep your eyes wide open & continue learning beyond your capacity of a nurse! So much to learn & be grateful for in this life. And who knows you might start seeing magic everywhere.. just like in this tree!!
Do you have a favourite tree??
